Some places ask you to slow down without saying a word. A chair in the shade. A table just big enough for two. A coffee that becomes another coffee.

A good trip needs a little empty space. Leave an afternoon without a reservation. Read a menu slowly. Ask what is good. See whether lunch wants to become the whole plan.

The pleasure is not always in finding the next thing. Sometimes it is in getting comfortable with the thing already in front of you: something delicious, someone interesting, a street you are beginning to recognize.

There will be time for the next neighborhood. Finish your coffee.
